We will protect Shaqiri : Red Star Belgrade

Xherdan Shaqiri’s Bio

Shaqiri has been moving clubs a lot in the last 4-5 years. He joined Liverpool for a reported 13.5 million fee from Stoke who were relegated at the end of the 2018-19 season. He was a prodigy at Bayern Munich and looked like the “next big thing”. His career has gone significantly down-hill since.

He grew increasingly frustrated at Munich as he found himself starved of opportunities. He then shifted to Inter Milan in the January of 2015 for 15 million, where he didn’t technically set the world alight .However, he shifted clubs again in the summer. This time to Stoke City in England. This was a surprise move as he was a wanted man across Europe. Maybe, he wanted to be the star man somewhere and revive his career.

After three seasons at Stoke, he showed good potential but certainly failed to be the star man. For the first season, he failed to hold down a starting spot which would have certainly affected his confidence.

He has turned out to be a decent winger with a good left foot though. He moved to Liverpool this summer for 13.5 million solely for the purpose of being a deputy to Salah.

The Situation

After Liverpool were drawn with Red Star Belgrade, the attention turned to Shaqiri. He would have been looking to start the fixture against the “minnows” of their group. However, he gained unwanted attention when made a symbol of the Albanian Eagle after scoring in the World Cup.

The symbol was a political one against Serbia where Belgrade is one of the top clubs, known for its crazy fans. Liverpool’s visit to Kosovo, most importantly Shaqiri’s could cause major unwanted situations.

The chiefs at Red Star Belgrade have promised to keep the fans at a bay. They want to be proper hosts and know the amount of psychological pressure that would be upon the Swiss. Let’s hope politics doesn’t get involved and we have a proper solid game of football.
