Liverpool finished an otherwise faltering 2020-21 campaign on a high note with the Merseysiders clinching a third-place finish in the league table on the final day of play, ensuring their spot amongst Europe’s elite in the Champions League next season.
Jurgen Klopp, however, does bear some responsibility on his shoulders to bolster his Anfield fold with the summer transfer window currently underway and the German has grabbed the headlines by securing Liverpool’s first signing of the window in Ibrahima Konate.
The France U21 international arrives on Merseyside in a deal running until the summer of 2026 and his joining the club is bound to provide a major first-team option to Klopp whose defensive department was subject to an injury crisis across the 2020-21 campaign.

Konate will provide tough competition to the likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip for a starting spot alongside Virgil van Dijk whose return from a season-ending injury is expected in time for the new season.
However, with the long-serving midfield general Gini Wijnaldum saying his goodbyes at Anfield and on the verge of putting pen to paper on a three-year-long deal with FC Barcelona, Liverpool fans have turned onto Klopp to go after a replacement for Wijnaldum who proved an ideal fit for the Liverpool boss’s teamsheet over the last five years.
Klopp also has a decision to make regarding his options up top on the pitch with the star pairing of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, despite getting back to their best in the backend of the season, misfired on the attacking front.
Here are two players we feel are potential targets for Liverpool heading into the summer window and we further take a look at how a Liverpool XI looks should Klopp be successful in his chase for the below-mentioned players-
1. Yves Bissouma
The Mali international enjoyed an incredible 2020-21 Premier League season with Brighton and was instrumental in Graham Potter’s side steering clear of the drop zone.
Bissouma has attracted attention from a number of top sides across the country with the onset of the summer transfer window and Liverpool find themselves alongside Arsenal in the battle to land the midfielder’s signature.
His work rate on the pitch and an ability to strike the ball well from a fair distance out could make him a viable replacement for the soon-to-be-former Liverpool man Gini Wijnaldum.
With Brighton not expected to demand an exorbitant fee to part ways with their star midfielder, Klopp could be tempted into extending a formal offer for the 24-year-old Bissouma to shore up his options in the centre of the park for the Reds.
2. Kylian Mbappe
Perhaps too big-name a player that should sign for Liverpool this summer is the long-term transfer target Kylian Mbappe whose future at Paris Saint-Germain looks uncertain heading into his final year of contract with the French giants.
The World Cup-winning forward has been courted by both Real Madrid and Liverpool for long but it is the former who enjoy the driver’s seat to land his signature should he choose to leave PSG anytime soon.
With Roberto Firmino looking far from his usual best and talk about a move to Atletico Madrid for the Brazillian, Liverpool would benefit greatly from a player of Mbappe’s star stature should they sign him to fill the void left by Firmino’s potential exit.
