Naby Keita likely to miss Atletico Madrid clash with hamstring injury

Naby Keita is in line to miss the forthcoming Champions League group stage outing against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night with a hamstring injury.

The midfield man was brought off the pitch at Anfield on Saturday in the 2-2 draw against Brighton with Keita feeling his hamstring as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on to replace him.

Keita’s return to the teamsheet for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side in the weekend showdown has been subject to much anticipation after a brief spell on the sidelines following his injury at Old Trafford.

Paul Pogba’s lunging challenge on the former RB Leipzig man had meant that Keita was stretchered off the pitch in the 5-0 win for Liverpool and had to be sidelined for the next game against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking to the club’s official website after his side’s stalemate, Jurgen Klopp sounded out concerns over Keita’s latest injury setback with the Liverpool boss suggesting the player was a major doubt for the Atletico Madrid fixture.

“He told me, he showed me [the] hamstring. So, I don’t know, we will see; obviously tomorrow [or] the day after tomorrow he will have a scan and then we will know.”

“But if somebody feels the hamstring, it would be the first time that he is ready for the next game. So, I can’t see that.”
