New signing Ibrahima Konate to sport the No.5 jersey for Liverpool

Liverpool’s first and only signing of the summer window so far Ibrahima Konate will don the No.5 jersey for his new side heading into his debut campaign on Merseyside.

Konate joined Jurgen Klopp’s Reds from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig on a long-term deal in an addition that has significantly bolstered the backline at Klopp’s disposal ahead of the next season.

Reports from the club’s official website confirm that the No.5 shirt, which has been vacant since the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum left Anfield to sign for French club Paris Saint-Germain, will now be taken over by Konate.

Wijnaldum left Liverpool after a five-year-long spell playing for the Merseysiders and clinching a number of honours, including the Premier League and the Champions League across his stint following his 2016 switch from Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp has been in the market for a new midfield player to take up Wijnaldum’s void in the centre of the park but the Liverpool boss is yet to extend a concrete offer for any of his target names which boast of the likes of FC Barcelona talent Pedri and Brighton star first-teamer Yves Bissouma.
